Cristiano Ronaldo: 'Winning major trophy with Portugal a dream'

Portugal ace Cristiano Ronaldo admits that winning a trophy on the international stage is something he has "always dreamed of" as he prepares for the Euro 2016 final.

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that "anything is possible" in Sunday evening's Euro 2016 final meeting with France, having kept his 'dream' of winning the competition alive.

The Portugal forward scored one - his third of the tournament - and inadvertently set up the other as the Selecao beat Wales 2-0 at the semi-final stage.

Portugal now have a chance to avenge their defeat to shock winners Greece in the 2004 final on home soil, but they must first overcome a France side brimming with confidence.

"It's something I always dreamed of," Ronaldo is quoted as saying by BT Sport when asked what lifting the trophy would mean personally. "It would be a huge achievement if I could win something with Portugal.

"My fingers are crossed because I believe, my colleagues believe, all of Portugal believes and the Portuguese community in France believe too. It's unique, a feeling of joy, because being in a final is something I wanted to achieve again. Now I will have the fortune, if everything goes well, to be playing on Sunday in a second final for Portugal.

"In a final anything can happen. We know we will face a great opponent, a great national team, but it's a final and anything is possible. It's going to be a tough game for both of us. They are, in my opinion, favourites because they are playing at home and that's a big advantage."

Ronaldo is level with French great Michel Platini as the European Championship's leading all-time scorer, with the Real Madrid star's nine goals coming across four different instalments of the competition.
