Paris Saint-Germain suffer Achraf Hakimi injury blow?

Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi reportedly picks up a hamstring problem as the French champions' injury crisis worsens.

Achraf Hakimi has reportedly become the latest player to join Paris Saint-Germain's ever-growing injury list with a hamstring problem.

The Morocco international has been one of the Parisiens' standout performers during the 2022-23 season, contributing four goals and five assists from 29 games in all tournaments.

Hakimi immediately cemented his place as PSG's first-choice right-back after arriving from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, and he came up with a goal and assist for Lionel Messi in last weekend's 2-1 Ligue 1 win over Toulouse.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 as Les Parisiens went down 2-1 to Marseille in Wednesday's Coupe de France last-16 clash, and he was expected to start against Monaco in the top flight on Saturday.

However, according to L'Equipe - via Get French Football News - Hakimi sustained a hamstring issue against Marseille in midweek and is now a doubt for the trip to the Stade Louis II this weekend.

Hakimi has not been ruled out of the game just yet, but he is facing a race against time to make himself available, and Timothee Pembele may therefore be needed to deputise against Monaco.

The former Real Madrid man is also now a doubt for the first leg of PSG's Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich, which takes place at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

Hakimi's issue is the latest in a long line of fitness problems for Christophe Galtier since the turn of the year, and the PSG boss may also be working without Lionel Messi for the visit of Bayern.

As is the case with Hakimi, Messi is also reported to have sustained a hamstring issue in their Coupe de France loss to Marseille, although he was still able to complete the full 90 minutes.

PSG staff are supposedly still confident that Messi will be passed fit for the clash with Bayern, but he is also expected to sit out the trip to Monaco alongside Kylian Mbappe, who is still dealing with a thigh injury.

Mbappe was ruled out for three weeks after picking up the problem against Montpellier HSC on February 1, which would have originally sidelined him for the first leg against Bayern.

However, there is said to be a small possibility of the 24-year-old returning to the squad for Tuesday's game, although he would only be able to play 10 or 15 minutes off the bench.

Galtier is also remaining cautious with the fitness of Presnel Kimpembe, who has now returned to full training from an Achilles injury but has not played since the World Cup.

Nordi Mukiele (hamstring) and Renato Sanches (muscle) make up PSG's final two injury concerns, and neither man will recover in time for the resumption of the Champions League.

PSG sit eight points clear of Marseille and Lens at the top of the Ligue 1 table, while upcoming opponents Monaco are 10 points worse off in fourth place. body check tags ::
