Edinson Cavani scores twice as Paris Saint-Germain beat French champions Monaco 3-0 in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Paris Saint-Germain have won the Coupe de la Ligue for a fifth year running by easing to a 3-0 victory over Monaco at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

A couple of goals from Edinson Cavani, including an eighth-minute opener from the penalty spot, sandwiched Angel Di Maria's strike as PSG lifted the cup for an eighth time.

French champions Monaco, one-time winners of the competition, again came unstuck in the final against their Parisian opponents and were left ruing their luck after having a goal ruled out with one goal in it.

Cavani tucked away from the spot after referee Clement Turpin used the VAR technology to award PSG an early penalty, with Kamil Glik guilty of bringing down Kylian Mbappe.

PSG added a second 21 minutes in through Di Maria, who slotted the ball past Danijel Subasic following a fine pass from star man Mbappe.

A couple of half-chances for Monaco came and went, the best of which saw Rony Lopes's chip shave the PSG post shortly before the interval.

Radamel Falcao then had a goal disallowed for offside after heading past Kevin Trapp, while Lopes's strike came back off the crossbar, and PSG used those scares to push on in the second half.

After having a goal of his own ruled out for offside, Cavani was celebrating a second of the evening late on with a clinical close-range finish to earn his side more domestic silverware.
