One of Paris Saint-Germain's long-serving veterans has confirmed that he will be heading for the exit door when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Thirty-seven-year-old goalkeeper Keylor Navas has given the capital giants five years of service since joining from Real Madrid in 2019, spending two years as the French champions' first-choice shot-stopper.

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers on the globe during his peak at the Parc des Princes, Navas has kept 51 clean sheets in 113 matches for Les Parisiens, winning nine major titles and collecting a Champions League runners-up medal in 2019-20.

However, the Costa Rica international has been second choice in the French capital since the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma as a free agent in 2021, even spending six months on loan with Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest in the second half of last season.

Since returning to PSG, Navas has made just three appearances for Luis Enrique's side in the 2023-24 campaign, starting three Ligue 1 matches and both of his team's opening Coupe de France clashes.

The former Real Madrid man is out of contract this summer, and with PSG also boasting Arnau Tenas in their goalkeeping department, Navas will call time on his Parisiens career when the campaign comes to a close.

"Every second I have enjoyed in the Parc des Princes has been wonderful. Thank God I have always felt his love and encouragement," the veteran goalkeeper wrote on Instagram.

"It has been an honour to defend this shield in this incredible stadium. There are goals ahead but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to say goodbye to what has been my home."

Navas's exit announcement comes just one day after Kylian Mbappe confirmed that he would be leaving when his own contract runs out at the end of the season, and a free transfer to the goalkeeper's former club Real Madrid is imminent for the French attacker.

What next for Navas ahead of PSG exit?

Navas's 37-year-old legs may still have a few seasons left in them, but he is firmly in the twilight of his career and is unlikely to be spoilt for choice when it comes to continuing his career in Europe.

However, the Costa Rica veteran made a name for himself in the Premier League during his short stint at Forest, and a handful of top-flight sides - including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool - could be on the hunt for a new name in between the posts this summer.

Navas would certainly not be first choice at any of those locations, though, so he may have to try his hand at MLS or Saudi Arabian football - or even make a return to his native Costa Rica, whom he still represents at international level - if he is to regain first-choice status. body check tags ::
