Marti Cifuentes to leave QPR for fellow Championship club? 'Talks held' with Spaniard's representatives

A Championship club reportedly holds discussions with the representatives of Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes may reportedly move to another Championship club.

The Spaniard has been at Loftus Road since October 2023, successfully keeping the Hoops in the second tier of English football on two occasions.

As well as last season's 18th-placed finish, QPR are in 15th position in the current Championship table with one game remaining.

However, back-to-back defeats to Swansea City and Burnley - losing 5-0 at home to the latter - has lowered the mood at the West Londoners.

According to talkSPORT, there is the possibility of Cifuentes soon walking away from QPR, potentially before the end of the campaign.

'Talks head' with fellow Championship team

The report alleges that representatives of the 42-year-old have already held discussions with West Bromwich Albion regarding the vacant role at The Hawthorns.

West Brom are looking for a new head coach on the back of sacking Tony Mowbray last week when it became apparent they were highly unlikely to make the playoffs.

Losing four of their last six matches has led to the Baggies sitting in 10th spot and they can finish no higher than ninth, attention now already being turned to 2025-26.

With Cifuentes said to have fallen out with the QPR hierarchy, it appears highly likely that he could take on a new challenge elsewhere.

Although Cifuentes reiterated on Saturday that he is "very happy" at the club while he 'is wanted', there is every indication that a departure could materialise.

Under-rated job?

QPR will have successfully remained as a Championship for 10 seasons running once the season reaches a conclusion, their highest finish having been ninth.

In the campaign prior to his arrival, QPR had finished 20th, so Cifuentes can claim to have overseen a period of progression when they appeared to be relegation candidates.

His record reads 27 wins, 24 draws and 31 defeats on his first venture into English football when needing to be creative in the transfer market, with the sales of Sinclair Armstrong and Lyndon Dykes ultimately provided him with a bolstered transfer budget.

With several jobs already available in the Championship and more potentially opening up, Cifuentes may not be short of opportunities. body check tags ::
