Steven Gerrard has offered to accept the blame for Motherwell's last-gasp equaliser as Rangers were held to a 3-3 draw at Fir Park on Sunday.
Opposition captain Peter Hartley, who courted controversy earlier this week after mocking former Gers defender Fabio Cardoso, bundled home with the last kick of the match.
Gerrard claimed that his side need to tighten up while defending set pieces but also vowed to put his hands up if the decision to introduce Wallace was the cause of their late slip-up.
"They had four or five big units on there," the Liverpool legend told Sky Sports News.
"Then I have a defender sitting behind me who is 6ft 3in, and with all due respect to Ovie Ejaria – and he was good today – Lee Wallace is a lot better at defending set pieces.
"That was the thinking behind it. If I've got it wrong I'll take the blame, no problem."
Rangers now sit four points behind early Scottish Premiership frontrunners Hearts in the table.
