Ally McCoist reveals that he was close to quitting the Rangers before he held talks with chief executive Charles Green.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has revealed that he was close to quitting the club before he held talks with chief executive Charles Green to clear the air.

However, after being assured by Green that there were no plans to remove his from his position, McCoist agreed to stay on as manager.

"At first when I was told that there might have been a move to get me out my reaction was natural. I was furious," he told the Daily Record.

After a meeting on Wednesday "didn't end well", McCoist claims that he did consider his future, but has since been reassured by Green.

"I've reassessed my position and taken a step back from the brink. As things stand at the moment I am still manager," he said.

Newly-formed The Rangers FC are still waiting to find out which division they will play in next season.
