Rangers manager Ally McCoist has claimed that the club's fans deserve to see the best players possible at Ibrox.

Rangers are poised to be able to sign players once again when their transfer embargo ends on Saturday night, with eight free agents already having agreed to join the club.

Chief executive Craig Mather has stressed that the club still need to cut costs, but McCoist believes that such measures will not have an impact on his squad as he looks to seal a second consecutive promotion for the fallen Scottish giants.

"I speak to Craig on a regular basis but, as yet, I haven't been told that will impact on my squad. The wages have come down dramatically in the last two years," McCoist told PA.

"People will argue it is still high for where we are but I feel that 36,000 season ticket holders deserve to see the best football we can give them. We have brought in eight free transfers and about seven or eight went the other way.

"It's my job to get the best team out on the park that I possibly can within a sensible budget. I haven't been told that any of my squad are under threat, no."

Rangers are currently top of the Scottish League One table and will face East Fife tomorrow.
