Ally McCoist believes that Rangers fans should be consulted before Ibrox's name is changed.

Ally McCoist has said that the fans of Rangers should have a say on the renaming of Ibrox.

It is understood that Rangers are considering a number of proposals to re-brand the stadium, including one from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley to promote Sports Direct.

McCoist told Sky Sports News: "I can appreciate it's a really delicate issue and I would imagine it would split fan opinion.

"I definitely think the fans would certainly have to have a voice and an opinion on the final decision.

"We saw the reaction of the Newcastle fans when it happened down there and I'd imagine a good percentage of our support would feel the same way."

Rangers face Elgin City in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup this Sunday at Ibrox.
