Rangers have been forced to settle for a second successive goalless draw this afternoon by a spirited Montrose side.
Ally McCoist welcomed Ian Black and David Templeton back to his starting XI as the Gers made a bright start on the artificial surface at Links Park.
Templeton, Lee Wallace and Martin Boyle all went close in the first half, but were kept at bay by a dogged Montrose defence.
The home side warmed to the task after the break and nearly went ahead through David Gray, who flashed a fierce effort over the bar from close range.
Rangers got a slice of luck soon after as Garry Wood's neat finish was ruled out for an earlier foul on Neil Alexander.
Barrie McKay and Kal Naismith came on in the closing stages but Montrose held firm to secure an important point.
