Rangers have won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 13 years after securing a 2-0 extra-time victory over Hearts in the final at Hampden Park on Sunday.

A powerful strike on the edge of the penalty area from Ryan Jack just three minutes into extra time broke the deadlock for the Gers, before Scott Wright added a second three minutes later with a low-driven shot beyond Craig Gordon into the bottom-left corner.

Rangers suffered Europa League heartache in the final on Wednesday, but they managed to put that disappointment aside at Hampden as they edged past their Edinburgh-based counterparts to lift the Scottish Cup for the 34th time in their history.

The first 90 minutes of the contest finished goalless but there were several opportunities which saw both sides come close to taking the lead.

The best chance of the first half fell to Hearts striker Ellis Simms in the 10th minute, when he ran onto a mis-hit strike from Liam Boyce before poking an effort at full stretch onto the outside of the post from just a few yards out.

In second-half stoppage time, Rangers came agonisingly close to taking the lead but a brilliant save from the left boot of Gordon deflected Joe Aribo's strike narrowly wide of the post, before Wright rattled the corner of the crossbar with a strike just seconds later.

Both sides were eventually forced into extra time, but it was the Gers who prevailed, with two early goals from Jack and Wright sealing victory for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.

The Dutch boss now has his hands on his first trophy since taking the reins at Rangers, while the Scottish Cup is the first domestic cup triumph for the Glaswegian giants in 11 years.

As for Hearts, Robbie Neilson will have been pleased with his team's performance at Hampden, but they have now suffered defeat in the final for the third time in four seasons, with their last domestic cup triumph dating back to 2011-12.
