Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jemez has backed Alberto Bueno to receive a call-up to the Spanish national team.
Bueno struck four goals in Rayo's 4-2 win over Levante at the weekend in front of Spain manager Vicente del Bosque.
Since joining Rayo in 2013, Bueno has netted 23 league goals in 61 games for the capital outfit and Jemez believes that the 26-year-old could be knocking on the door for his country.
"For me it would be a tremendous honour if a Rayo player wore the Spain jersey and one day became the national team's top scorer," Jemez told reporters.
"Vicente [del Bosque] will have taken this into account but it won't be easy. Alberto has to keep working hard and sooner or later he'll reach a state of joy [in the national team]."
Bueno only made one appearance for Spain's Under-21 side in 2008, but was a regular scorer for the Under-19 team.
