Reading manager Steve Clarke has confirmed that Royston Drenthe is set to leave the club on a permanent basis this month.
The 27-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan to fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday before returning to the Madejski Stadium last week.
Reports have suggested that the Dutchman is closing in on a switch to a Chinese club, although Clarke has refused to confirm where Drenthe's next destination will be.
"The club called him back from Sheffield because there's an opportunity for Royston to get another move," Clarke told Get Reading. "It's progressing but until it actually happens it's only speculation so we'll have to wait and see.
"But it looks in all probability that he'll be going somewhere else for the second half of the season. If it comes off then it will be permanent.
"I think it's better not to say where it is. It's up to the club and the representatives of Royston Drenthe to come to a satisfactory conclusion for all parties."
Reading signed Drenthe as a free agent in the summer of 2013.
