Reading are reportedly eager to secure the services of Jure Travner.
The 29-year-old has been training with the Championship side for the past two months and was thought to have impressed previous boss Nigel Adkins.
However, new manager Steve Clarke is also an admirer of the Slovenian's talent and would like to add him to his squad at the Madejski Stadium during next month's transfer window, according to Getreading.co.uk.
It is believed that Travner is also keen to make the switch, but the deal is being held up by a contract dispute with his current team FC Baku, who play in Azerbaijan.
The report adds that the Royals are confident an agreement will be reached in the near future.
