Atletico Madrid have held Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in this evening's Copa del Rey second-leg clash at the Bernabeu, securing a 4-2 win on aggregate and advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition at the expense of the hosts.
Diego Simeone's charges, leading 2-0 in the tie from the first leg, further extended their aggregate lead after just one minute played.
Antoine Griezmann, leading a swift counter-attack, sent a low ball towards the far post where Fernando Torres confidently lashed a first-time shot into the back of the net.
The Colchoneros found themselves giving away too many set pieces following their goal, and midway through the first half, Real levelled proceedings when Toni Kroos's free kick fell to Sergio Ramos, who duly thumped home.
On the half-hour mark, the hosts had another great chance, Gareth Bale finding Cristiano Ronaldo with a pinpoint cross, but Juanfran was able to block the header.
Torres then sent the visiting fans wild at the start of the second half when he turned Pepe inside the box before finishing into the bottom corner.
Just eight minutes later, Ronaldo pulled Real back into the game when he connected with Bale's cross to fire into the net.
In the 70th minute, Karim Benzema was the first to react from a dangerous corner, but the Frenchman blasted over the crossbar from three yards out.
Towards the latter stages of the game, tempers began flaring and a multitude of players found themselves booked for altercations.
However, Atletico were able to ride out the storm and secure the aggregate win, advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition and knocking out their biggest rivals in the process.
