Real Madrid and Barcelona have reportedly been handed a boost in the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
Although the Austria international is close to completing nine years at the Allianz Arena, there is currently a reluctance to pen fresh terms at the Bundesliga champions.
With just 12 months left on his contract, that throws up the possibility of the 27-year-old being able to leave on a free transfer in 2021.
However, The Telegraph claims that Bayern would prefer to cash in on one of their key men rather than risk him departing for nothing.
That stance seemingly opens the door to Madrid and Barcelona, who may jump at the chance to sign a versatile player for a cut-price fee.
Nevertheless, the Spanish giants need to make player sales before they can press ahead with a bid for the defensive-minded player.
