Real Madrid have reportedly identified Monaco's Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez as a transfer target this summer.
Rodriguez, who has scored five goals in four games at the World Cup, is believed to be attracting interest from a number of clubs, but he has indicated that he would prefer a move to Spain.
According to AS, Madrid are ready to begin negotiations with Monaco by tabling an offer in the region of £40m for the 22-year-old.
However, any potential deal could depend on whether the Champions League winners can find a buyer for Angel di Maria before the start of next season.
Rodriguez signed a five-year deal with Monaco last summer.
