Real Madrid have confirmed that Luka Modric has agreed to sign a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Croatia international has already solidified himself as one of the best midfielders in Real's history, making 436 appearances and winning 20 pieces of silverware.

Having spent a decade in Spain, it has been previously claimed that the 36-year-old would look to take on a new challenge at the end of his career, potentially with a club in the MLS.

However, at a time when the veteran has remained as a key player under Carlo Ancelotti, focus quickly turned to the playmaker being handed fresh terms.

After weeks of speculation, the newly-crowned Champions League winners have now formally announced that Modric has penned a deal until the end of 2022-23.

Although Modric has enjoyed many strong years in a Los Blancos shirt, he has arguably just enjoyed one of his best campaigns with Real completing the La Liga and Champions league double.

To a certain degree, Modric's fitness was managed in Spain's top flight, but he still managed two goals and eight assists from his 28 outings.

His starring performances were saved for continental football, Modric making 12 starts and one substitute appearance during Real's miraculous run to the trophy.

Real dramatically overturned deficits against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City before posting a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in last month's final.

The announcement of a new contract comes at a time when Ancelotti will be freshening up his midfield options during the summer transfer window.

Now that Modric's stay has been confirmed, it has been claimed that confirmation of Aurelien Tchouameni's transfer from Monaco will soon follow.

The France international will be joining an array of midfield talent which also includes Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde.

Real have already made one addition this summer, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger being confirmed as a new arrival as recently as last Friday with his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring at the end of this month.

Having missed out on signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, a high-profile face is also expected to be signed as competition for Karim Benzema. body check tags ::
