Real Madrid's move for Bayern Munich's David Alaba reportedly hits a roadblock due to the defender's mammoth wage demands of £12m per season.

Real Madrid's pursuit of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has reportedly hit a roadblock due to the 28-year-old's wage demands.

Alaba has now entered the final six months of his deal with the Bavarian giants, and Real Madrid are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.

With bitter rivals Barcelona supposedly pulling out of the running to sign the versatile Austrian, Real were understood to be hopeful of wrapping up a deal in the coming weeks.

However, Goal claims that Alaba's mammoth salary demands are proving problematic in negotiations, with the defender expecting a yearly wage of £12m in the Spanish capital.

The report states that Zinedine Zidane's side are only prepared to fork out £9m per season, but Alaba wants to become the highest-paid player at the club - a title which £11m-a-year Sergio Ramos currently holds.

Despite the ongoing speculation, Alaba remains a key player for Bayern and has already made 19 appearances for the Champions League winners across all competitions this term. body check tags ::
