Real Madrid 'target' Alphonso Davies as second Galactico signing of summer

Real Madrid want to sign Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies during this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Real Madrid are reportedly pressing ahead with their plans to sign Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies during this summer's transfer window.

Davies has been heavily linked with a move to Bernabeu over the last few months, with Los Blancos believed to be huge admirers of the Canada international.

The 23-year-old was again a vital player for Bayern during the 2023-24 campaign, making 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering six assists in the process.

Davies only has a contract at Allianz Arena until June 2025, though, and the Munich giants have thus far been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign him to fresh terms.

According to ESPN, having finally agreed a deal to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid have now firmly turned their attention to Davies.

Real Madrid 'step up Davies interest'

The report claims that Bayern are open to selling the Canadian for the right price this summer, as they do not want to risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

Real Madrid are allegedly prepared to pay a fee in the region of €40m (£33.7m) for Davies, with Bayern not in a strong negotiating position due to the length of time left on his contract.

The defender arrived at Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, and he has represented his current side on 195 occasions, scoring 11 goals and registering 31 assists in the process.

Davies scored against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the 2023-24 Champions League, but Los Blancos turned the game around to progress to the final, where they overcame Borussia Dortmund.

What is the left-back situation at Real Madrid?

Ferland Mendy was a key player for Real Madrid during the 2023-24 campaign, making 37 appearances in all competitions, but there remains speculation surrounding the 29-year-old's long-term future.

Injury issues are thought to be the source of Real Madrid's concern when it comes to relying on the Frenchman over the course of a season.

Fran Garcia also made 31 appearances last season, but the back-up left-back could allegedly be allowed to leave Bernabeu this summer if a suitable offer arrives.

At this stage, it is said to be unclear whether Mendy's future is related to what happens with Davies, but he could ultimately stay to battle it out with the Canadian for the left-back spot next term.

If that is the case, a departure for Garcia would be almost certain, and there were suggestions of interest from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen during the January transfer window. body check tags ::
