Real Madrid are reportedly willing to offer £42m plus Luka Modric for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
While the Italian giants have long remained firm in their efforts to keep hold of the Senegal international, discontent behind the scenes may potentially lead to changes being made to the first-team squad.
Real are among the clubs who are monitoring the situation as they consider an approach for the centre-back, who has previously been valued in the region of £100m.
According to El Desmarque, Los Blancos are looking to shell out a much lower fee by giving Napoli the opportunity to sign Modric in part-exchange.
Despite the Croatia international making 14 appearances in all competitions this season, Real would prefer to get the 34-year-old off their wage bill.
Modric still has just over 18 months remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu.
