Toni Kroos has said that he will "retire" at Real Madrid but has not guaranteed that he will be signing a new contract with the Spanish and European champions.

The 32-year-old has again been a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti's side this season, making 16 appearances in all competitions, contributing three assists in the process.

However, Kroos's contract at Bernabeu is due to expire next June, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future in the Spanish capital.

The German has said that he is "relaxed" over his situation, but he has again reiterated a desire to retire at Los Blancos, whether that is this summer or in the future.

"I'm very well, I feel good physically. I'm very relaxed about my [contract] renewal. I don't even know myself what will happen. We'll decide before March, so that you don't all get too nervous," he told reporters. "I'm going to retire here, what I don't know is when. There's nothing new to tell."

There have been claims that some players at Real Madrid are in need of a rest, with the club losing against RB Leipzig in the Champions League last week before being held to a 1-1 draw by Girona in the league on Sunday.

However, Kroos said that only the two recent results have led to tiredness claims.

The midfielder is set to be involved in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Celtic, which Real Madrid need to win to guarantee that they finish at the top of Group F.

However, Kroos will not feature against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga next Monday, having received a late red card in the 1-1 draw with Girona last time out.

"I can only speak for myself. I've got a rest coming up [because of the suspension] so that helps me not to worry about tiredness, but I'm feeling good physically," he added.

"People are only talking about [the calendar and tiredness] because we have gone two games without winning. Before, no one was talking about it."

Kroos will not feature for Germany at the upcoming World Cup, though, having retired from international football last year, and he said that he could not choose between club success or international glory.

"That's very tough. The World Cup is played every four years and you can only play in two or three, but I'm not going to choose. They are very special moments," he added.

Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, and he has represented the Spanish giants on 381 occasions in all competitions, contributing 25 goals and 86 assists in the process.

The midfielder has also been hugely successful at Bernabeu in terms of trophies, lifting three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies, in addition to picking up silverware in the Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Club and Club World Cup. body check tags ::
