Real Salt Lake missed the chance to return to the top of the Western Conference as they deservedly lost to Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
The Utah side were completely outplayed and, aside from Justin Braun's tame header in the 15th minute, they failed to work the opposing goalkeeper all game.
Colorado took the lead seven minutes before half time when Joseph Nane found space 15 yards out before unleashing a ferocious left-footed shot into the roof of the net.
The hosts had numerous chances to extend their advantage but, collectively, Omar Cummings and Jaime Alberto Castrillon were off target with eight of their nine goal attempts.
