Real Valladolid are relegated from La Liga following a 1-0 defeat to Granada, whose status has been secured.

Real Valladolid have been relegated from La Liga following a 1-0 defeat to Granada on Sunday.

The home side finished the campaign in 19th position, but the three points for Granada ensured that they finished two points above the drop zone.

It was the home side that made most of the early running, with Jeffren and Daniel Larsson both causing problems with a host of dangerous balls into the Granada box.

Javi Guerra almost opened the scoring for Valladolid after dancing through the Granada defence before placing one towards the bottom corner, but his effort was just wide of the post.

Granada's best chance of the early stages fell to Diego Mainz after 12 minutes, but the centre-back was denied by a smart save from Jaime Jimenez in the Valladolid goal.

Valladolid remained the side on top, however, with Jeffren once more testing Jaime with a powerful effort from distance, but the Granada stopper answered the call.

The contest continued to flow from end to end in the latter stages of the half, with Youssef El-Arabi (Granada) and Guerra both having efforts on goal, but neither could break the deadlock.

Granada did take the lead in the latter stages of the half, however, when Stefan Mitrovic turned into the back of his own net following a scramble inside the box.

As a result of the stand incident at Osasuna, the half-time period was extended in the other three La Liga fixtures, with play not resuming until 7.30pm local time in Spain.

Guerra remained the main outlet for the home side in the early stages of the second period, but clear chances were at a premium as Granada put nine of their outfield players behind the ball.

Rayo Vallecano's equaliser against Getafe raised the home supporters and Guerra came close once more after 70 minutes, but Roberto made another brilliant save.

The pressure continued from Valladolid in the final 10 minutes, with a number of crosses causing chaos inside the Granada box.

Granada might have had their second five minutes from time when Yacine Brahimi advanced into the Valladolid box, but his effort was straight at Jaime.

It mattered little in terms of the final result, however, as Granada held on for the victory.
