Rennes held off a late fightback from Evian to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France this evening.
The home side dominated the opening exchanges before going on to break the deadlock in the 21st minute through Jires Kembo-Ekoko.
Julien Feret had a good chance to double his side's advantage before the break, but he shot over from close range.
However, nine minutes after the restart Feret got his second effort of the match on target to put Rennes two goals to the good.
When the tie seemed to have been put out of Evian's reach, Yacine Brahimi scored Rennes's third of the match in the 68th minute.
The visitors rallied though and pulled themselves to within a goal of their hosts by the 73rd minute. First Cedric Barbosa scored from the penalty spot, before former France international Sidney Govou added Evian's second.
Despite enjoying large spells in possession, the away side were unable to find a further goal to take the tie into extra time.
