The Republic of Ireland are hoping to line up a friendly against England next year.
The Football Association of Ireland have said that the match is likely to happen if their side reaches the Euro 2012 finals.
Giovanni Trapattoni's side are expected to qualify after a 4-0 first leg win in their playoff against Estonia.
"I think there is a real enthusiasm, particularly from the English FA, to have England in Dublin sooner rather than later," chief executive John Delaney told The Sunday Irish Independent.
The second leg of Ireland's playoff against Estonia takes place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Tuesday.
