West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long has been confirmed as the captain for the Republic of Ireland's friendly match against Georgia tomorrow.
Long will replace Robbie Keane as skipper on the night as the LA Galaxy striker is rested alongside nine other players ahead of their World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Friday.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni made it clear that he considers Long to be a senior member of the squad, but also reminded the 26-year-old of the added responsibilities that the armband brings.
"He was a young player, now he's a senior. He has a heavy responsibility, as every captain," said Trapattoni.
"He must play well - and score a goal if possible - but he has also to advise the other players."
Long is suspended for Friday's match against Faroe Islands.
