Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has warned Kevin Doyle that he needs to get his career back on track.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, but talks over a permanent move have stalled in recent weeks.

Doyle scored in Ireland's 1-1 draw with Costa Rica on Saturday.

"I said to Kevin it's [about] finding your way back, really it's finding your way back," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail.

"He has to ask himself what has happened in the last couple of years. Whether it's sometimes you don't score the goals and feel as if that's your major job and confidence is affected.

"And then you start to drop down a couple of divisions and of course relegation with Wolves doesn't help anybody but he has a bit of rejuvenation going to QPR helping them get into the Premier League but that's where he has got to aim to try and get back to – to the player he was a couple of years ago."

Doyle has a year remaining on his contract with Wolves.
