Clark Robertson's opener was cancelled out by Josh Windass.

Wigan manager Paul Cook was delighted to take a point away from Rotherham following a 1-1 draw between two struggling Sky Bet Championship clubs.

Two goals in four first-half minutes saw Rotherham go in front only to be swiftly pegged back. A second-half stalemate ensued, with neither side able to carve out a good opportunity.

Clark Robertson gave the Millers the lead as he powered a header into the top corner from Will Vaulks' cross.

But it was short-lived joy for Rotherham, with Josh Windass clinically putting Wigan on level terms with an arrowed finish from the edge of the box.

Michael Smith blew the biggest chance to clinch a win when he side-footed over the bar from close range before the half-time whistle.

Cook felt his side's leveller came at the perfect time.

He said: "I think when Rotherham scored there was only going to be one result. Credit to Rotherham, they were nearly unplayable at times in the first half. We could not keep them off us.

"We didn't get a foothold in the game but we scored against the run of play. That's football and you go in at half-time thankful that you're still in the game. A lot of teams would have gone under today.

"I don't think it was a great game to watch. Rotherham put a lot of balls into our box and we had to defend for our lives. Rotherham were excellent in the first half. It was a difficult day for us but I am delighted with the point."

Wigan had to substitute skipper Danny Fox following a head collision midway through the first half but Cook confirmed he was OK.

He said: "To lose Foxy was a big disappointment because a lot of our game plan went out of the window.

"He got a little bit knocked out and he has a few stitches in his lip. It looked an unintentional one but hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later."

Millers boss Paul Warne said: "I thought we caused them no end of problems and should have really gone in up at half-time.

"We haven't not won the game by a lack of effort. People don't go out to miss chances but collectively we have to take them to win games.

"It was a perfect opportunity. Had we won, we could have pulled Wigan back into it, tried to get away from Reading and got closer to Millwall. If we would have taken three points it would have looked great.

"Their goal was an amazing finish but it's still stoppable from our point of view. In the last 10 minutes they finished stronger than us. Windass caused us problems."
