Steve Evans "immensely proud" of Rotherham United

Rotherham boss Steve Evans says that his troops can be proud of their point against promotion-chasing Derby County, despite being 3-1 ahead at one point.

Steve Evans has told his Rotherham United team to be proud of their performance against promotion-chasing Derby County in Tuesday's 3-3 draw.

The Millers looked on course for all three points at the New York Stadium after goals from Richard Smallwood and Matt Derbyshire put them 3-1 ahead on 54 minutes.

However, Tom Ince, who earlier cancelled out Paul Green's opener, grabbed his second before Darren Bent completed the comeback on 82 minutes to ensure that Derby stay joint-top with Bournemouth.

In contrast, victory would have seen Rotherham move six points clear of the relegation zone, but Evans is still "immensely proud" of his players' effort.

"What an advert for Rotherham United being in the Championship," he told Sky Sports News. "There's tinges of great disappointment being 3-1 up.

"We got a point but we have come across the best team and manager in the division. They have laid siege, there is some sloppy defending from us, the second and third goals could be averted.

"We are immensely proud of them. We will take a point and we will be a coupon buster for most people around the country. We have taken a team which will be in the Premier League right to the wire."

Evans's side travel to playoff-chasing Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
