Steve Evans wants Rotherham United to emulate Swansea City

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans says that his side should look to follow Swansea City's example by establishing themselves in mid-table.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has said that he wants to make his side the Championship's answer to Swansea City.

The Millers can now look forward to another season in the second tier after they avoided relegation to League One by five points.

Despite being tipped for relegation by some pundits ahead of last season, Swansea achieved their highest ever Premier League finish of eighth, and Evans hopes that Rotherham can go on to do something similar in the league below.

"I think we need to establish ourselves, as people look at us, as a Swansea of the Championship," the South Wales Evening Post quotes the Scot as saying. "They are mid-table in the Premier League and can they kick on? Yeah, I think they can.

"It will be a question of whether they can get those one or two signings who make the difference. They are outstanding to watch and all the other stuff that goes with it.

"I think we now need to become a Championship club that people see as a solid, settled second-tier club. Not necessarily the biggest. Do you want to be the biggest? I'm not sure that you always want to be the biggest.

"But you want to be the best at what you can do, so I think if we can become a solid, mid-table Championship side being able to cast an eye towards that playoff pack, then that would be a remarkable success."

Evans has led Rotherham from League Two to the Championship in his three years in charge.
