Rotherham United beat Brighton 1-0 to confirm Blackpool's relegation to League One.

Rotherham United have condemned Blackpool to League One thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Millers took the lead with just seven minutes on the clock as Matt Derbyshire got beyond his marker to convert Jordan Bowery's teasing cross.

Rotherham continued to do most of the pressing after going ahead, though some poor deliveries from out wide hindered their chances of extending their advantage.

Steve Evans's side should have made it 2-0 midway through the half when Bowery headed over the crossbar from close range moments after Chris O'Grady had fired off target.

With Brighton offering little from an attacking perspective, Rotherham threatened again as Derbyshire allowed the ball to get away from him after being sent through on goal.

The home team carved out half a chance just before the half-time whistle as they kept at the Seagulls, but Paul Green dragged his shot wide following Ben Pringle's cross.

Brighton looked a bit more lively at the start of the second period and they could have taken the lead on 55 minutes when Beram Kayal raced through on goal, only to be denied by Emiliano Martinez.

Both sides went on the attack during the final half an hour as Bowery almost turned Leon Best's cross into his own net before Kyle Lafferty's cheeky chip at the other end went wide.

Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale was kept busy towards the end of the game, watching Bowery's low strike flash off target and denying Derbyshire in a one-on-one situation.

However, the visitors enjoyed the better chances in the final stages as Mustapha Carayol headed wide after substitute Craig Mackail-Smith almost scored with his first touch.
