Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko has welcomed the news that UEFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against his country over the violent scenes that marred the national team's 1-1 draw with England.
Mutko said that the governing body is making "the right decision" with its approach to the unrest, reports Sky Sports News.
Reports indicate that a group of Russian supporters rushed their England counterparts after the full-time whistle of the draw in Marseille, an incident that is said to have left a number of fans hospitalised.
Although Mutko has condemned the violence and backed UEFA's investigation, he previously suggested that the incident was "exaggerated" and blamed the clashes on the failure to segregate opposing supporters.
Both UEFA and the English Football Association have issued statements condemning the violence.
