Saint-Etienne have failed to move into Ligue 1's top three because of tonight's goalless draw against Bordeaux.
In the first half it was the hosts who made all the running. Brandao headed a pair of chances high and wide inside the first 20 minutes before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired wide and Romain Hamouma saw his shot kept out by Cedric Carrasso.
Bordeaux almost nicked a surprise lead before the interval, though, when Jaroslav Plasil sent over a free kick and Lamine Sane headed wide from eight yards.
In the second half it was more of the same, with Les Verts regularly testing Carrasso but failing to beat the Bordeaux keeper.
Brandao headed straight at him in the 58th minute before defender Kurt Zouma twice went close with headers in the dying stages. In total, Saint-Etienne had 15 shots to Bordeaux's four.
Christophe Galtier's men could have leapfrogged Lyon but instead remain two points clear of Lille in fifth, while Bordeaux rise one place to eighth.
