Salford City have reportedly begun talks over an ambitious move for Hearts' former skipper Christophe Berra.
The veteran defender returned to boyhood club Hearts in 2017 after stints in England with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town but was frozen out by new boss Daniel Stendel following his arrival at the struggling side last month.
Salford, meanwhile, are playing in the English Football League for the first time in their history and are targeting new arrivals this month as they look to mount a late push for the playoffs.
According to the Daily Record, Salford manager Graham Alexander - a former international teammate of Berra - is keen to add a new central defender and has opened talks with the 34-year-old about a move.
Scottish Championship sides Dundee and Queen of the South are also said to be interested in Berra, although Salford - part-owned by the 'Class of 92' - have a bigger financial clout in their favour.
