Schalke striker Jefferson Farfan has been ruled out until next year after he picked up a serious injury while on international duty.
The 27-year-old tore an anterior ligament in his knee during Peru's 2-0 defeat to Ecuador in their 2014 World Cup qualifier in Quito on Tuesday.
Farfan is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks with the problem.
The news comes as Schalke captain Benedikt Hoewedes picked up a similar injury during Germany's 3-0 win over the Netherlands.
