Scotland manager Gordon Strachan believes that his side's 2-2 draw against Poland in Thursday's Euro 2016 Group D qualifier at Hampden Park was "a bit unfortunate".

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has bemoaned his side's 2-2 draw against Poland in Thursday's Euro 2016 Group D qualifier at Hampden Park, describing his players as "a bit unfortunate".

The hosts fell behind after just three minutes through Robert Lewandowski's strike, but rallied round to lead 2-1 thanks to strikes from Matt Ritchie and Steven Fletcher.

Just when it seemed like Scotland could hang on to a precious win, however, the Bayern Munich forward rifled home in the fourth minute of injury time to deny the Tartan Army a place at next year's finals.

Strachan told BBC Sport after the game: "If I'm like the rest of the nation, I am hugely disappointed for the players. The group of lads gave as much as they could give. That's what I see at the moment.

"I feel a bit sorry for them, to have put so much work in and to have scored two wonderful goals. I am proud of them. They have been a bit unfortunate."

Scotland have not qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup.
