Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has admitted that his team gave a "flat" performance as they went down 1-0 at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
Steven Fletcher scored the only goal of the game at St Mary's as the Saints suffered a second defeat in three Premier League matches.
"It was uncharacteristically flat from us today," Adkins told Sky Sports News. "Whatever we tried to do and endeavour didn't give us the opportunity to score goals today."
Southampton are now just one place above the relegation zone on goal difference.
