Southampton defender Dan Seaborne was due to be released from intensive care today.
The 24-year-old centre-back suffered "potentially life-threatening" injuries after being assaulted outside a nightclub in Southampton city centre during the early hours of Friday morning.
"Doctors have informed the club this afternoon that Dan Seaborne continues to make steady progress," read a statement on the club's official website.
"Dan will be discharged from ITU later today, but will stay in hospital for a few more days to aid his recuperation."
Seaborne joined the Saints in 2010 from Exeter City for for a fee believed to be £250,000.
