FIFA have confirmed that they are investigating allegations by Claus Lundekvam that he, his former teammates and many of his opponents were involved in illegal betting.
Former Southampton defender Lundekvam, 39, claimed earlier this week that betting on individual match events such as the first throw in, the first corner or a yellow card was done frequently during his 12-year Premier League career.
"FIFA are monitoring this issue and involved their chief investigator in England," read a statement. "Once all the investigation is known it will be decided who will lead the investigations."
Francis Benali, who played alongside Lundekvam with the Saints for nine years, has categorically denied having any knowledge of illegal betting taking place during his career.
