Southampton manager Mark Hughes has suggested that he could hand Danny Ings an immediate debut against Burnley this weekend.
Ings has been available to leave Liverpool throughout the summer, but the Saints did not complete a loan deal for the forward until the closing minutes of the transfer window on Thursday.
However, Hughes has indicated that he is prepared to throw the Englishman into the team to face his former club in Sunday's Premier League opener at St Mary's.
At a press conference, Hughes told reporters: "I saw Danny late last night and had a drink to celebrate. Our owner was present too.
"Danny is available for Sunday. We will see how he is but there is enthusiasm and he wants to be part of it. He is fit and well and had game-time in pre-season."
Ings has been limited to just 25 appearances in three years at Liverpool due to two serious knee injuries.
