Ronald Koeman has said that he was 'impressed' by Virgil van Dijk's debut performance for Southampton in their 0-0 draw away at West Bromwich Albion.
Van Dijk joined the Saints from Celtic on the final day of the transfer window for £11.5m and impressed his manager by earning a clean sheet in his first appearance for the South Coast club.
"Virgil was in my opinion impressive how he played today," Koeman told the Daily Echo.
"He looks very comfortable with his new teammates and good in defending.
"We know also one of his qualities is in his passing from the back. He played perfect today."
Southampton's next test sees them host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
