Southampton boss Mark Hughes claims that six more points might be enough for his team to survive in the Premier League this season.

Southampton boss Mark Hughes has claimed that six more points might be enough for his team to survive in the Premier League this season.

The Saints are currently 18th in the Premier League table - five points from the safety of 17th position ahead of their clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night.

The south coast club are currently on 28 points, and Hughes feels that two wins from their final five matches might be enough to escape the relegation zone.

"I think it's a little bit difficult to anticipate what it will take to survive this year. Historically, everybody mentions the 40-point mark but it's not going to be that this year; it could be anything from 34 to 37 maybe," Hughes told reporters.

"I don't know, it's difficult to pitch, so we're just focused on what we can do, what we can affect and in my view that will be enough for us."

Southampton have only won five of their 33 Premier League matches during the 2017-18 campaign.
