Nathan Redmond: 'Southampton should have beaten Everton'

Southampton forward Nathan Redmond admits that his side threw away two potentially vital points by conceding a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Everton.

Southampton forward Nathan Redmond has admitted that his side threw away two valuable points during their 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park this evening.

Redmond broke the deadlock for Mark Hughes's side 11 minutes into the second half, and that looked as though it would be enough to clinch a crucial victory that would have taken Southampton two points clear of the relegation zone.

However, a Tom Davies equaliser two minutes beyond the allotted four minutes of stoppage time saw the win snatched away from Southampton, and Redmond acknowledged that it is two points dropped for his side.

"We should have taken three points. I didn't think I made a foul in the corner and they took it forward another 20 yards," he told reporters.

"We tried to catch them on the break another couple of times but we're disappointed not to take three points and that it has been taken out of our hands.

"I couldn't care less if I score unless we stay in the Premier League. The gaffer told me to go on and try and get forward so that's what I tried to do. We need to take this point, albeit we should have had three and take it into the next two games."

The point does lift Southampton out of the relegation zone, although they are now level with 18th-placed Swansea City, whom they will face on Tuesday night.
