A move for Samuel? Saints teenger 'set to sign' for French club

Southampton have reportedly agreed a deal with Strasbourg for Samuel Amo-Ameyaw to depart St Mary's.

The 18-year-old joined the South-coast club during the summer of 2022 from the academy of Tottenham Hotspur and soon made history for the Saints.

Amo-Ameyaw became the youngest-ever player to feature for Southampton in the Premier League when he made a cameo during the final match of the 2022-23 campaign.

Focusing on the present day, the winger is a prominent part of England Under-19s side, who also currently nurture the talents of club teammate Tyler Dibling.

The youngster has been spared the stresses and heat of a top-flight relegation battle this term, playing just 26 minutes of Premier League football.

Southampton prodigy Amo-Ameyaw heading towards French move?

According to The Athletic, Southampton are set to lose one of their brightest prospects to a French outfit during the final stages of the winter transfer window.

The report claims that the Saints have agreed a deal with Strasbourg for Amo-Ameyaw, who will be looking for regular first-team minutes in Ligue 1.

It is understood that the 18-year-old will initially move to Strasbourg on loan until the end of the term, with the BlueCo-owned club having an obligation to purchase the player for £5.8m over the summer.

Strasbourg and Amo-Ameyaw have shaken hands on personal terms for the winger, while a medical has already taken place ahead of the new week.

The teenager could spend a good chunk of his career in France, with the player supposedly set to sign a five-year deal at Strasbourg at the end of this season.

Should Amo-Ameyaw stay at Southampton?

Despite a 2-1 success at Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon, Southampton look destined for the drop following a painful campaign to date.

The Saints have collected just nine points from their opening 24 matches, meaning that they sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, 10 points from safety.

As a result, there is a line of argument proposing that Amo-Ameyaw would be a useful asset in the Championship for the Saints next season. body check tags ::
