Phil Brown has admitted that his team selection cost Southend United in their 2-0 home defeat to Walsall in League One this afternoon.
The home side were outplayed as goals from Tom Bradshaw and Sam Mantom secured victory for Dean Smith's side to leave the Shrimpers without a victory in their first three games of the season in all competitions.
Southend boss Brown told reporters after the game: "I got the team selection totally wrong and take full responsibility for that.
"When you're chasing games you take risks. We were that open it could have been more than 2-0. We were far too open but we aren't going to make that mistake again."
Next up for United is a long trip north to face Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night.
