Sporting Kansas City failed to take advantage of their game in hand on DC United after being held to a goalless draw at home against Houston Dynamo.
The home side battered the Dynamo's goal throughout the match but could not find the shot that would have taken them to the top of the MLS Eastern Conference.
Perhaps the best chance of the match fell to CJ Sarpong just before the hour mark, but he dragged a right-footed effort wide from inside the box.
The result means that Kansas trail top-of-the-table DC by one point, while Houston remain mid-table.
