Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Mason earns a surprise call-up to the England squad.

Tottenham Hotspur's Ryan Mason has earned a surprise first call-up to the senior England squad for the upcoming games against Lithuania and Italy after Adam Lallana withdrew injured.

Liverpool midfielder Lallana pulled out of the squad after coming off at half time against Manchester United on Sunday.

Mason, 23, has previously represented England at Under-19 and Under-20 levels, but never played for the Under-21s. He has scored one goal in 23 Premier League appearances for Spurs this season.

The North London side had no players in last year's World Cup squad, but Mason's inclusion means that there are five in Roy Hodgson's latest selection - Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend being the others.

Fabian Delph also missed Three Lions training today, but Hodgson is hopeful that he can overcome a sickness bug to be available for the upcoming double-header.

England host Lithuania at Wembley in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday before travelling to Turin for a friendly against Italy on Tuesday.
