Jermain Defoe: Sunday is our cup final

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe urges his teammates to focus on their own match ahead of a decisive final Premier League weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has described Sunday's match against Fulham as a "cup final".

Spurs go into the final game of the league season knowing that a win could see them leapfrog North London rivals Arsenal into third place, securing the last remaining guaranteed Champions League spot.

Arsenal would need to slip up for Tottenham to go above them, but Defoe is eager for the club to focus on their own game and worry about other results afterwards.

"We can't think about the other games and all the other permutations, we just have to think about ourselves," he told Spurs TV Online.

"It's like a cup final for us on Sunday. We want to be in the Champions League. It's the elite competition. I loved everything about it - that music, playing against the best players and the best teams in world, so it's important for the whole club to get back in it.

"Finishing fourth was the goal at the start of the season and if you look at our squad we should be finishing in the top four."

While three points could catapult Spurs into third place, they will also be aware that anything other than a win could see Newcastle replace them in the top four.
