Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that he is surprised that Tottenham Hotspur did not stop him scoring in City's 4-1 win on Saturday.
Gundogan opened the scoring at the Etihad and Kevin De Bruyne added a second, before Raheem Sterling's brace secured a 16th consecutive Premier League victory for Pep Guardiola's men.
Christian Eriksen responded with a late consolation for Mauricio Pochettino's men, which was the only telling contribution for the visitors.
"It was an incredible performance," Gundogan told BT Sport. "We are happy to beat a team like Tottenham."
"I was a bit surprised that I was free, I guess the Spurs players didn't know I am strong at that.
"I have been through tough times so especially games like today where you are able to improve your self-confidence are very important. [Saturday] was a good day."
City's next test is an EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Leicester City.
